Trapeze Artist Flying High Towards The Everest
The 3 year old colt Trapeze Artist, (by Snitzel out of Treppes) is the current toast of the racing world. He has won Sydney's premier Gr.1 sprint, the TJ Smith Stakes in early April and followed it up with the All Aged Stakes win earlier this week.
Though speculations were rife that owner Bert Vieira would send the colt to stud, he ultimately decided to continue racing the champion colt.
The next conquest for Trapeze Artist would be The Everest (2018). This decision has come as a relief for trainer Gerald Ryan, who said he's quite excited to train him for the upcoming race.
Owner Vieira signed a deal with Aquis Farms for their slot in The Everest, which though not a Gr.1 race, is the richest race in Australia and the richest turf race in the world. Bert Vieira had bought Trapeze Artist's dam Treppes in foal to Snitzel. When Trapeze Artist was still a yearling, he failed to reach the $350,000 price tag at the 2016 Easter Inglis Sale, Vieira took the colt home to race him in his own colours.
And that decision seems to have paid off in a big way. Having already accumulated prize money of $3 million during his racing career so far, Trapeze Artist intends to continue his winning streak at the upcoming race.
Fielding offers of more than $40 million for Trapeze Artist to go to stud, post The Everest, Vieira and trainer Gerald Ryan hope to take Trapeze Artist instead, to the Hong Kong International Races (2018) and thereafter to Royal Ascot (2019). This will of course be subject to lifting of quarantine restrictions.
It seems to be quite an exciting season for the colt, and there's quite a bit of "artistry" at work. We doff our hats to the champion, his trainer and his owner for the lovely moments they have given us at the races, and the memories that are yet to come.
