After a splendid third place in the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Classic, Thunder Snow will be plotting his Dubai World Cup defense.
He will commence his winter campaign in either the Gr.2 Al Maktoum Challenge R1 or R2 in the first quarter of 2019.
Gunnevera's connections also confirmed that the will be pointing to the US$9 million Gr.1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational before a possible return date to Dubai.
“(Thunder Snow) ran a huge race,” Godolphin trainer bin Suroor reported after the Classic. “I’m happy with him. It’s the big stage and the big race with the best horses in the world and it was a good run from him. Now we take him back to Dubai to Sheikh Mohammed to prepare for the Dubai World Cup. It was no problem with the draw. I wasn’t really worried about that. He jumped well and was in a nice position. It was too fast early, but he still ran a huge race. I’m happy with that.”
Owner Charles Fipke and trainer Dallas Stewart, are thinking about entering Their Seeking the Soul in the Dubai World Cup Carnival after his performance in the US$1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. “I thought he ran great and I’m really proud of the horse,” Stewart said. “He needed a little more ground (distance), that’s all. I’m very happy for Mike McCarthy (trainer, City of Light) and his team. We just got outrun today and that’s horse racing. We’ll point toward the Pegasus from here.” He added the day after: “Hopefully we can get an invite for Dubai.”
After the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint champion Roy H, his connections are also considering another trip to Dubai. Owned by Rockingham Ranch and David Bernsen, the son of More Than Ready is now under consideration for a bit of atonement in the UAE. Rockingham partner and racing manager Brian Trump confirmed that the Dubai Golden Shaheen, which has been upped to $2.5 million in prize money, is on the radar.
After Rockingham Ranch and David Bernsen’s Peter Miller-trained Stormy Liberal won the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint connections are considering redemption, in the US$2 million purse, the Al Quoz Sprint.
Conquest Tsunami and Richard’s Boy also remain possible for a return to Dubai.
