Godolphin’s Trekking To The Top Of Everest with Vin Cox
In 2019 A$14 million The Everest, Trekking stormed into third place only seven days after earning his place in the race by winning the Gr.2 Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield.
The son of Street Cry was beaten less than a half-length by Yes YesYes and claimed A$1.24 million in prizemoney. Santa Ana Lane split the pair in second place.
Trainer James Cummings’ charge jumped and settled towards the rear of the field with the early
pace set by the flying Nature Strip. but the third-place-getter began reeling in the leaders over the final 200m, to go down by mere three-quarters of a length.
In his latest run post his Everest effort, Trekkingraced into second place behind Pierata in the ungraded Redzel Stakes.
“Trekking will be aimed at the Gr.1 Winterbottom Stakes and then he will be brought back to the East coast for six to seven-furlong races during the Autumn Carnival,” says Vin Cox, Managing Director of Godolphin Australia.
The multiple G1 winner Alizee, who represented Godolphin in their own slot, finishing three lengths behind the winner, returned to the track in the Gr.1 Darley Sprint Classic at Flemington on the last day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, racing competitively and finishing in 4th place.
Upon reflecting on The Everest, Cox noted that Alizee“coursed wide that day, the pressure was up front, and was gallant going down by that margin."
“Alizee is a valuable mare from the top class pedigree. She will run in two or three more key races and then will be retired for breeding,” he said.
“We are very excited about our 3yo colt Bivouac, the winner of the G1 Golden Rose Stakes. He produced a strong performance to finish a close second in the Gr.1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.”
“He has just turned three and is still developing both mentally and physically. Around April we will assess his form and maturity. Therefore, we will make a call as to whether he becomes an Everest prospect or whether he goes up to Royal Ascot.”
“Our top colts are being prepared for key Group One races in the autumn like the Gr.1 Newmarket Handicap Stakes, or the Gr.1 Oakleigh Plate. Our best fillies will be aimed at the Gr.1 Surround Stakes route. Our top 2YOs will be aimed at the Gr.1 Golden Slipper,” says Cox with obvious pride.
