Preview: Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies 2020 ( Horses, Racecard, 2019 Video)
The winners of the last four Juvenile Fillies have combined to win just three races following their Breeders' Cup triumphs. This has been far from a productive race dating to Songbird's win in 2015, but that trend looks poised to buck in 2020 with a deep field full of talented 2-year-olds from across the country.
This year's field could feature four Gr.1 winners. Among those, Gr.1 victors Princess Noor, Simply Ravishing and Dayoutoftheoffice, plus Gr.3 winner Girl Daddy, have combined to go 11 for 11 in their young careers.
These fillies have shown both brilliance and consistency, which ensures this will be one of the most competitive races of the Breeders' Cup and possibly the best of the five Friday juvenile races.
Bob Baffert's Princess Noor figures to be the selection of visual handicappers. She has effortlessly crushed her competition in three starts while looking like poetry in motion. However, her Beyer Speed Figures are light, which makes many question the competition she has been beating.
Dayoutoftheoffice and Simply Ravishing will be the plays for those who handicap races strictly on paper. Simply Ravishing has an improving pattern with Beyers of 50, 81 and 89 in her three starts. Dayoutoftheoffice took a huge leap forward, going from an 83 Beyer in her previous race, to a 95 number off a short break in the Frizette.
That is the second-highest Beyer Speed Figure of the year by any 2YO.
Vequist, the fourth Gr.1 winner in the field who exits a second in the Frizette, has the credentials of a Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies favourite most years, but could wind up as low as the fifth choice in this talented cast.
