Queen Anne Stakes' Preview - The Glamorous Curtain Raiser
Queen Anne Stakes, the curtain raiser for The Royal Ascot - beautiful women in designer hats and shoes, Men in top hats, Michelin star chefs serving picnic food and English afternoon tea. It’s an incomparable experience. The best horses have flown in. Mebourne’s jockey princess is here to lead Australian Kaspersky to victory on the Turf. The glamorous Italian jockey Frankie Dettori is on the glorious bay American Patriot, with legs which hug the ground as they glide across.
American Patriot is a miler and he’s a fast one. Miss Temple City is another bay who is glorious on the race track. Both have recently completed a mile around the 1:35 minute mark in April claiming first places in their respective races. The two turf lovers go head-to-head with the current favourite Ribchester whose recently beaten Toascanini, Lightning Spear, Mytakayyef and Deauville recently. Iffraaj son is in great form after his win 2017 Lockinge Stakes where he beat Lightning Spear who was place third in last year’s Queen Anne Stakes. (Tepin won in 1:43.98)
Though we also have Cougar Mountain who was third in the 2015 Queen Anne Stakes, Lightning Speed is not to be dismissed as last year’s has-been. Pivotal’s chestnut son, was placed claimed second place just after Ribchester in the 2017 Lockinge Stakes in April. He’s primed and set to give it his all in this exciting race.
Jallota is another one to watch. He’s a steady one with second, third & third positions in his last three outings and he’s beaten Kool Kompany and Kaspersky in the reacent past. Though Kaspersky came a long way, his history in handicap races doesn’t suggest a Royal Ascot win. Mebbe The Melbourne Princess will be his lucky charm.
SW’s Trifecta – 1) Miss Temple 2) Ribchester 3) Lightning Spear
