Drefong stared down his elders in a sparkling win over favorite Masochistic in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita. The victory gave trainer Bob Baffert his fifth Breeders’ Cup Sprint score and 13th Breeders’ Cup championship. Baffert said. "He looks good. He's training well and happy, so that's all you can ask for right now."

While Masochistic is prohibited from competing in this year's Breeders' Cup because of a positive drug test for the anabolic steroid stanozolol after last year's Sprint, Mind Your Biscuits, third under the wire in last year's Sprint, but promoted to second, is back. Chad Summers-trained colt has his biggest win in the Gr.1 Dubai Golden Shaheen.

Takaful comes off a spectacular win in the Vosburgh win. “He’s a special horse and I’m so happy to win a Grade 1 for Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the owner, and Rick Nichols and all of Shadwell,” McLaughlin said after the race. The horse’s form suggests a place in the top five, if he truly improves from his Vosburgh race.

The field also includes other superb sprinters like the Santa Anita Sprint Championship winner Roy H, Gr.2 Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes winner Whitmore and Imperial Hint who stands undefeated in his last five races.
