Preview & Trifecta - Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint
Skye Diamonds and Finley’sluckycharm fight to stay ahead!
Skye Diamonds is a proven commodity for the Filly & Mare Sprint, for trainer Spawr, who won the 2011 Sprint with Amazombie, has been the leading trainer at Del Mar twice. She competes against Finley’sluckycharm, who found her way to the winner’s circle as she does almost every time she races. The speedster prefers to be the pacesetter, but showcased another dimension when capturing the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes at Keeneland Oct. 7. The victory gave her an automatic berth to the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint where she is sure to rank among the favorites for the race.
Finley’sluckycharm is trained by Bret Calhoun, who used the same race as a steppingstone to winning his first Filly & Mare Sprint with subsequent Eclipse Award champion Dubai Majesty in 2010. Calhoun will be returning to Del Mar for the first time since the summer of 2008 when he spent several weeks at the seaside track with San Clemente Handicap winner Storm Mesa. Chad Brown’s charge, Paulassilverlining is the next on the short list here and has a fine chance of adding to her recent victories. She has got earnings of $1,506,230 under her belt with 11 wins from 22 starts.
Jay Em Ess Stable owned By The Moon, has recently been in the press for all the wrong reasons. The filly is slotted to be bred to the USA’s richest racehorse, Arrogate. She does seem to deserve consideration after taking a recognised trials, but as things stand it would be a surprise if her overall form was up to winning this. She has also got an impressive earnings of $1,552,940 out of 7 wins from 19 starts.
