Godolphin Bags A Fastnet Rock Filly For Record Price
The 2018 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale got off to a decent start on 4th March with the Book 1 of the catalog. Day 1 ended with near identical stats to the same stage last year – average of $126,276, median of $110,000, clearance rate of 80% and gross of $14,648,000. The day’s top sales were Lot 63 which James Harron Bloodstock purchased for $400,000 and Lot 137 which was purchased by Paul Moroney Bloodstock for $400,000.
Day 2 saw Lot 300 purchased by Gerald Ryan for Rosehill for $420,000. The colt is a half-brother to Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up Enbihaar. “He was the spitting image of his old man [Rubick], albeit maybe a little taller than his father at the same age,’’ Ryan said. “This horse was the best Rubick of the year so far hands down. He’s a great mover, great strength and has a nice page. The next in line was lot 265 a Sepoy filly purchased by Damon Gabbedy’s Belmont Bloodstock Agency on behalf of Milburn Creek’s John Muir for $400,000. Day 2 ended with aggregate with 17 sales for $2,525,000.
Day 3 and final day for Book 1 saw Global leader Godolphin pay $500,000 for a Fastnet Rock Filly from Rushton Park. Next Darren Weir Racing and John Foote Bloodstock purchased a Lot 528 a colt of Snitzel from the Mill Park Stud draft for $450,000.
Book 1 ended with a sale average of $118,333, median of $100,000, gross of $49,936,500 and clearance rate of 83%. “Last year was the best Premier Yearling Sale we have ever had and this year’s version is right on par with that, so we must be satisfied with that,’’ Inglis’ Victorian Bloodstock Manager Simon Vivian said.
The last day of the sale was for Book 2 of the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale on 7th March. This day saw a total of 140 Lots sold out of 206 a good 75% clearance, aggregating a total of $5,512,000. Highest amount of the day was paid for Lot 659 a good $150,000.
As compared to last year Inglis a drop in profits this year but a good 4 days sale which saw approximate 80% clearance with a gross amount of $56,170,500.
