Review: 2018 Australian Easter Yearling Sale
Fastnet Rock Colts Bag Maximum
The 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale was concluded yesterday with a bang. Three days of excitement and earnings in millions. This year’s sale was the second best sale of the Easter Yearling Sale’s history.
The sale was organized in sets of two books. The book one which included 450 lots was concluded at midday on day three and book two which included 84 lots was wrapped up on the third day itself. The complete sale collected a gross amount of $122,347,500 and saw a clearance of almost 72% lots sold.
Two Fastnet Rock colts bagged the highest price. Lot 400 of dam The Broken Shore was sold to Anthony Freedman Racing VIC for a whopping $2.3 million and Lot 268 of dam O'Marilyn was sold to George Moore Bloodstock Hong Kong for an astonishing $1.8 million.
“I think knowing the family and training Shoals, I had that intel. That gave me a bit more confidence,’’ Freedman said. “I think he’s the right type of Fastnet Rock colt, he’s not too big, and I think he’s just a bigger version of Shoals. He was the colt of the year. Knowing the family as well as I do I was very confident he was the right type. He gave me the confidence to go to the price.’’
Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster was happy with the way the sale ended. “To match last year’s average and increase the gross by more than $7million, it’s a very healthy position to be in,’’ Webster said. “These results all come down to the fantastic quality of product our vendors have presented to the market, and the diversity of the buying bench that has come to Riverside Stables this week.”
