Review: 2018 Tattersalls Cheltenham April Sale
Tattersalls bring us another successful sale. April 19th saw the sale held after the race at the Tattersalls Ireland Sales arena. This was sale of winning and placed point to pointers and form horses. The catalogue had almost 40 horses.
Top lot of the day was the offspring of Martaline, Thatsy (LOT15). He was sold for £130,000 to Aidan O'Ryan / Gordon Elliott. The consignor was Monbeg Stables (Donnchadh Doyle). The next best sale was Lot 28, Cobbler's Way by Oscar. The consignor was Milestone Stables (Colin Bowe) and the gelding was bought by Margaret O'Toole / Henry De Bromhead for £120,000.
The sale had a total of 40 lots catalogued and only 36 were offered for sale out of which 25 got sold.
The total amount collected was £1,265,500 with average of £50,620 and median of £47,000.
After the sale, Director of Horses in Training Sales Richard Pugh commented;
"Whilst it has been a terrific season at the Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham Sales thus far - this evenings April Sale is the first one to show a decrease in the key indicators. Comparing sales to previous year however will never apply to select form sales such as this one in the same way as it does to sales with more substantial catalogue quantities.“
"April 2017 bounced back from a relatively low comparable turnover in 2016 to return exceptional results last year. Already the 2019 calendar seems to be strongly in favour of the April Sale in terms of likely supply and we must accept that the factors outside of our control had an effect on this evenings results and look forward to what appears likely to be a very strong sale here on 31 May 2018."
