Preview: Gr.1 Champions Mile (2018, Champions Day, Hong Kong)
Champions Clash In The Champions Mile 2018
Road To Rock gelding is expected to 'rock' in the Champions Mile. Connections hope to add Beauty Generation to an 'elite' group of milers who have won both the Gr.1 Hong Kong Mile and the Gr.1 Champions Mile in the same season. Although his performance in the recent Gr.2 Chairman's Trophy was less than desirable, trainer John Moore has chalked it up to handling by a new jockey. "I'd Just forget the run the other day. The Chairman's Trophy wasn't run to suit and now we have Zac Purton back on board again." He said.
The highly rated gelding should however be wary of his old nemesis Beauty Only who had somewhat been written off. Connections were contemplating retirement for him, when lo behold his fire was 'rekindled'. Tony Cruz's gelding came in with his customary late burst to beat Western Express by a neck.
Five year old South African
Singapore Sling won the Gr.1 Hong Kong Classic Cup and then landed a sound second behind the hitherto undefeated Ping Hai Star in the Hong Kong Derby. Trainer Millard had the choice between APQEII Cup and the Champions Mile. He ultimately decided that the son of Philanthropist would benefit long term from a step back in pace.
Seasons Bloom is said to be the 'best miler in Hong Kong'. The Danny Shum trained gelding landed a third behind Time Wrap and Werther in the Gr.1 HK Gold Cup (2017) earlier this year. And neither of them are in this race to hold him back again. He has shown amazing consistency and potential so far. We also believe, the Captain Sonador colt is ideal for the fast paced Gr.1 Champions Mile.
So who knows? He could be the cause of a spectacularly blooming upset for two international beauties.
