Preview: Gr.1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize (Sha Tin, Hong Kong, US$2.050 million)
Will Champagne Bubbles Spill For Lucky Bubbles?
Defending champion hopes to remain 'lucky' again for trainer KW Lui in this year's Gr.1 Chairman's Sprint Prize too. Royal Ascot hopeful Lucky Bubbles will be reunited with jockey Brett Peblele in the HK16 million feature this weekend. UAE raider Blue Point has raced only one before this year in the Gr.2 Meydan Sprint where he was narroly defeated by stablemate Ertijaal. The Shamardal colt was the top contender for the Gr.1 Dubai Turf on the Dubai World Cup card. However he was withdrawn at the gates when blood was detected at his nostrils.
Trainer Appleby is completely delighted with the colt. "He shipped in very well, Sophie (assistant to Appleby) knows him inside out and the team was pleased with the way he settled into his surroundings".
Godolphin's other entry in the Group One feature is Yoshitada Takahashi trained-Fine Needle. The Needlecraft colt has arrived in great form too and impressed onlookers with his pre-race gallop earlier this week.
Fine Needle has notched up both the Gr.1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen and Gr.3 Silk Road Stakes to his name thus far. Old Rival Mr. Stunning was runner up in the recent Gr.2 Sprint Cup. He will be ridden by Australian Sam Clipperton, a jockey who is new to him. But Clipperton is confident he has "the complete package" to cross the wire first.
Only time will tell!
