Adian O’Brien’s Hydrangea and Cliffs Of Mohair Clash For (Irish) Gold Cup
The group one Gold Cup field consists of incredibly talented runners headlined by the top rated Galileo filly pitted against the dual group one winning stablemate Cliffs Of Mohair.
O’Brien said of the Mooresbridge winner, “We’ll stay at a mile and a quarter for the moment and then we’ll see where we go after that.” Cliffs Of Moahir was runner up in the Gr.1 English Derby (2017).
In her last start Hydrangea notably won the Gr.1 Filles’ and Mares Stakes beating Dubawi filly Bateel.
To make things even more interesting is Roger Varian’s Defoe who has been beaten just thrice in his last nine starts. And is unbeaten in his last two starts. He is slated to make his Royal Ascot debut in the Gr.1 Prince of Wales’ Stakes.
Lancaster Bomber is another one from the Ballydoyle camp. He recently placed third in the Lockinge Stakes beaten by stablemateRhododendron. The slightly concerning part element is the fact that this race is a ten furlong while the former was just eight. Yet, he grew tired two furlongs out in the Lockinge, after chasing leaders all the way.
