Preview: Gr.1 Hong Kong International Vase
Gr.1 Hong-Kong Vase contender Waldegeist is one of the worlds top middle distance gallopers. He's won 4 times this year including the Grand Prix de Saint cloud. The Andre Fabre trained 4YO was also ran 4th in the a Gr.1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe won by Enable earlier this year.
However he has a tough task ahead, facing some of the best gallopers in this category from around the world. Notably, the list includes Hong Kong's very own superstar, Pakistan star who is the winner of the Gr.1 Chaters and Champion Cup as well as the Gr.1 QEII Cup earlier this year. However the diva is little predictable and could disappoint.
We have Red Verdon (GB) the good one Gallagher was a sound 2nd in the Hardwicke stakes at Royal Ascot but was unplaced in the Caulfield Cup recently.
Prince Of Arran joins the great line up. He comes on a high from being placed 3rd in the Melbourne Cup this year.
Japanese bred Lys Gracieux beat fellow contender Crocosmia to take the QEII Cup last time.
When you look at the boys from Hong-Kong, its Pakistan Star, Eagle Way and Exultant seem to be the top choices.
Eagle Way won the Queensland Derby being imported into Hong-Kong where he's steadily proved himself. The entire just landed the Gr.2 Jockey Club Cup.
Exultant was 3rd in the Gr.1 Irish 2000 Guineas in 2017. The classy stayer was second in Gr.1 Champions & Chater Cup and in the recent Gr.2 Jockey Club Cup.
However the words Waldegeist and favourite seem to be sticking together for this one.
