Blue Point Aims For A Choisair Copy
All eyes will be on Blue Point today as he steps up for his second race during the Royal Meeting – The Gr.1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes.
Choisir was the last horse to add the six-furlong spectacle, then called the Golden Jubilee Stakes, to the Gr.1 King's Stand Stakes in 2003.
The son of Shamardal got the better of Battash in the five-furlong King's Stand by 1 1/4 lengths.
"We were delighted with Blue Point's performance on Tuesday, and he seems to bring his 'A' game to Ascot," said trainer Charlie Appleby.
Group Two and dual Group Three winner Invincible Army has grown considerably since last year when he was beaten by four lengths although he still needs to prove himself at 6 furlongs in a Group One field. Stephane Wattel trained City Light, has something to prove and was just half a length behind Court on his seasonal reappearance at Maisons Laffitte in April. He is one to watch in this outing.
Bound For Nowhere has Ascot form to boot, after he was runner-up by a neck behind Imprimis in Shakertown Stakes at Keeneland in April.
Popular Kachy will need a lot to win this. He tends to prefer curvier tracks and firmer ground although he can work with turf or dirt. He was disappointing behind Battaash in Temple Stakes at Haydock last time.
One of Singapore’s best, Lim's Cruiser, is out to beat the locals. (Show them how its done!) The Lion City Cup (2018) winner and 2019 runner-up will need to bring his A game to international Group One contest, with Blue Point in the running.
Sands Of Mali not only holds the C&D record but has notably won the Champions Sprint Stakes over the same C&D. Though his season start has been a bit disappointing, its time he bucks-up, he has the capability to do this.
Le Brivido has been disappointing in his last three runs, notably when he was three lengths fifth to Lord Glitters in Queen Anne Stakes (2019) earlier this week. With a shortened trip, he goes to the gate, with a lot to prove.
Projection, Speak In Colours, The Tin Man, Tip Two Win, Yafta, Keystroke, Donjuan Triumphant, Dream Of Dreams, Emblazoned and Enzo's Lad complete the line-up
